It rained off and on for the duration of our first meet of the season, the Mt. Carmel Field and Distance Invitational. In spite of that, we had a few good results. Last year’s State Champ in the long jump, Alysah Hickey, dominated with the Section Leading leap of 19 feet even, followed by Ruthie Grant-Williams in eighth place with 16 feet 1 inch. Both girls scratched the high jump, even though they were the favorites, because of a slippery takeoff area. Victoria Perez, who holds the school records for both the shot put and discus throw, placed third in both events with a 33 foot 7-inch heave for the shot and a 102 foot 3-inch sling for the discus. Soph Sofia Van Arsdale had a nice run on the fast 800 heat with a third-place finish in 2:23.3. The Hundley Sisters both ran the 1600 with Madden clocking 5:25.3 and Abigail finishing in 5:40.2. Madden came back to run the 3200 in 11:52.9 for 10th place behind Teresa Perez’s fifth-place finish in 11:28.3. Our only boy runner featured Brad Busby who clocked 10:41.4 for the 3200-meter run.
